One of my favorites! Grade A!

This knife is a big old hunk of 1095 steel and now one of my favorite knives. First off this knife is great looking. I really like how they stamped "Schrade" into the blade. The handle scales have a cool pattern molded into them and big meaty screws holding them on.Back to the blade; it's a full 1/4" of 1095 steel. 1095 was introduced way back in the 1800s and has proven itself in military issued knives for decades. My first 1095 knife was purchased in the 1970s. I still use this knife. In testing the new Schrade was the equal to my other 1095 knives in hardess etc. so Schrade is producing their 1095 right. The blade coating seems to be thick, uniform, and very durable. One of my tests involves stabbing metal materials. This didn't even scuff the coating. At the end of my testing the blade

Had mine for a couple if years...

I've seen mixed reviews.... Over all I've a had great experience with mine.. for the price you get a thick slab of carbon steel with all it's strengths and weaknesses... Of.... *Drum Roll* Carbon steel... You want indestructibility? Pay premium for a super steel.... But also suffer at the sharpening stone. LOL... Like I said I've had mine for several years now.... Yes I've used it to process wood... but just because it's thick and big it doesn't mean it'll please all the survival nuts, you gotta know how to use it.....Never go full gorilla.... Just because it's sturdy it doesnt mean it'll do the job of a maul or axe, I can probably break mine if i wanted too.... Maybe stab the tip into a hard wood and leverage it, or whack it across the grain on a god awfully twisted piece of almond wood

Like all Schrade knives, an excellent value

I own a more expensive Becker BK2, and have used it pretty roughly while camping and working in the yard and woods. I bought this one to lighten the load because the BK2 is pretty worn. I opened up the package and immediately remembered why I like Schrade knives. They are an excellent value for what you pay. I'm not going to talk about angle of grind, type of steel it's made of. I use my knives hard, then I clean them and sharpen them, and do it again. The Schrade felt amazing in the hand. Very ergonomic, UNLIKE the BK2 which feels like a sewer pipe with a sharp crowbar on the end. The handle is a hard rubbery substance which feels good to hold, is not slippery when it's wet, but also not aggressive like a pokey G10 grip on a 1911. It's well balanced for rough use as well as more delicate

Great Solid Knife

This is a solid, well-made knife. It was sharp enough to shave off hair right out of the box. The blade is full-tang, thick, and heavy. This knife should hold up well to strenuous outdoor usage like cutting small trees and limbs for firewood or outdoor shelter. I also like how the sheath has a place to hold the included sharpener and fire starting rod. The fire starting rod is a ferrite rod only and doesn’t also include magnesium; this isn’t a big deal, but some additional material (such as dryer lint, wetfire, etc) may be needed in some instances to start a fire. Overall a great buy for the price. Schrade makes a smaller version that I plan to also purchase as it would be more comfortable to carry for more everyday use. Due to its size, I’ll probably keep this particular knife in a

Great Knife-Great Price

Ok I have been looking for a nice bush craft knife for awhile at least one that wont break the bank.I have been reading a ton a reviews and watching the same amount of videos. Due to the price point on this, I figured I would give it a shot. I was totally impressed! Lets start with the unboxing. I was just surprised buy the heft of the whole knife. They didn't cheap out of the steel. Now the case is a nylon sheath that is what it is. The blade sits in a kydex sheath which is a plus but the rest is nylon. The sharpening stone is a nice add on along with the ferro rod. There is a bit of resistance after removing the ferro rod and sharpening stone. But I feel once its broken in this will not be a problem. Now to the knife. The handle almost has a rubber like texture to it. Feels good to the

Seems to be the perfect beater knife. Time will tell.

I recently snapped the blade on a moderately pricey, discontinued benchmade folder while doing yard work. I was cutting a gnarly vine off of a chain link fence post. The knife was probably a little dull, and I was probably a little tired, and without really thinking about what I was doing I tried to pry the vine away from the post to get the edge where I wanted it.Since then I've carried a Spyderco Stretch (highly underrated) for yard work and I've been borderline paranoid about what I use it for. I own a few nice fixed blade knives, but none that I want to subject to the type of abuse I know I'd inflict while doing yard work and fatigued. Did I mention that the "yard" is 12 acres? I wanted something that I could use to dig up weed roots, swing near metal fencing, and use to pry without

Great knife; incredible value

I've purchased, and love, the SCHF16 (small, super handy), the SCHF30 (larger knife, everyday duties), and the SCHF9 (mondo-huge chopper, actually illegal to carry off my own property in Texas). I love each one of these knives for various duties. Hobbies, including craft and leatherwork: The 16. Butchering wild game and light work duties: The 30. Cutting a hole in the universe: The 9.The SCHF36 price for Prime customers dropped to about $24, so I bought one. I'm very happy. Some background: I'm a teacher by trade, but we live on acreage. When I say "working" or "work knife" I mean fixing machinery, structures (shed, fencing, etc.), clearing brush, and the like. Fairly rough stuff, though I'm not a rancher.PROs:- Thick, beefy blade, but short enough to carry legally.- 1095 steel is great.

Very stout and durable blade. Huge bang for the buck. The jimping is just a little too aggressive for bare hands.

Before buying I knew the blade was about a 1/4" wide and was a full tang but I was a little surprised at just how heavy and stout the knife was. I was trying to decide if the weight is a plus or a minus. Obviously a minus for carrying, but the weight really helped with chopping and the width of the blade was great for batoning. As soon as it arrived I had the boys go out back with me and start cutting and chopping away at fallen limbs and logs. We really abused the knife and it took all of the abuse without a problem. It kept its edge very well.My only complaint so far is with the jimping on the handle. Especially on the bottom where your last three fingers grip. They dug into my fingers too much while chopping. So much so that I took the scales off and ground the ridges flat. Now it
