Amazon.com On this evocative disc of instrumental music, dulcimer player Ken Kolodner is assisted by guitarist Robin Bullock and fiddle player Laura Risk (of Cordelia's Dad). Walking Stones includes several traditional Irish and Scottish pieces as well as a number of original compositions. Subtitled A Celtic Sojourn, the album does indeed give a listener the feeling of going on a journey, mainly because of the otherworldliness of the material and the ethereal quality of the hammer dulcimer. From the dancing rhythms of "Father Kelly's," "The Bornish Polka," and "Reel Beatrice" to the gentle delicacy of "Clock Waltz," "Princess Beatrice," and the title track, this music is nothing short of beautiful. There are more than 30 pieces in all, most quite short; however, they are arranged on the CD to flow smoothly one to the next, so the briefness of the songs is never distracting. --Genevieve Williams
