Works but needs a AA battery (not included) to emulate the tape loadingmechanism of a standard sized VHS cassette.

I had purchased and returned two other VHSc adapters that failed either right out of the box or upon inserting the cassette into the player.Those two products appeared at first use to be cheaply made, and also seemed to be of the same maker, despite different brand names.This adapter was more costly, but was obviously a much better-made product than the two that failed. The body appears more substantial and the mechanical operation is very smooth. I inserted my VHSc cartridges that had sat idle for many years, and they played without issues.Spend a bit more and avoid the aggravation and frustration of having to deal with an inferior product.

I had originally ordered a competitor product that was rated as high. But when it arrived the packaging was sparse at best and as soon as I picked it up I heard something rattling around. I decided to try it in case. I followed the instructions and when placed into my VCR it immediately ate the tape ruining it beyond repair. So this one was the next highest rated. It came with no rattling sounds and has been working like a champ. Restored my faith in these converters. I'm now looking forward to continuing to convert great family memories from tape to digital for preservation.

I tried the same adapter from another Amazon vendor and returned it. It was a cheap plastic, the video jumped around, the sound was garbled. Thought I'd try this one, not knowing it was the same brand. However, this one was a thicker plastic, heavier adapter, that worked well immediately. The tape still jumps a little, but nothing like the first one I purchased. I bought this to digitize all my VHS-C tapes with the help of an Elgato Video Capture device that hooks my VCR to my laptop and records the tapes as MP4's. I have digitized a few wonderful memories using this product.

To be honest, there was nothing to dislike. I have had some VHS-C tapes in the garage for over a decade. I lost my adapter many, many years ago. I decided to try this out. Reviews didn't seem to bad.Within an hour of receiving, I put in one of my tapes to see how it would work after putting in the required "AA" battery. It worked perfectly. I couldn't believe I was looking at some videos from 15 years ago when my kids were small. I was so happy I was able to save these.Last night I went through approximately 10 VHS-C tapes to see what was on them. (forgot to label them years ago). Not once did the adapter become faulty or mess any of my tapes up.Very, very pleased. I am so glad I bought it.

This adapter item appears to be very cheaply made and never worked properly-- not even once. After inserting the vhs-c tape into the adapter, it would make a fairly loud rewinding- sort of noise (...I assume this was from the unit opening the door of the vhs-c tape so that once inside the vcr, the tape could be accessed and played), plus somecracking and popping noise. Once all the noise stopped, unfortunately, the door would pop back open slightly (about a half an inch). This, of course, meant that it wouldn't fit into the vcr door slot. Note: if I held my finger on the unit door to keep it closed, the unit would just keep making the rewinding noise. If I took my finger off, the noise would eventually stop, but then... the door would pop back open slightly. I tried this repeatedly and w
